Natural Beauty and Durability with Bamboo Rugs
For a stylish, hard wearing floor covering, the bamboo rug is an ideal choice. Available in a variety of sizes, colors and styles, environmentally friendly and easy to clean, a bamboo rug can be found for any room in the home.
Bamboo is a quick growing, renewable and very tough plant with many uses in today's home. While the plant itself is a popular choice, particularly amongst feng shui fans, a bamboo rug makes a great, natural accessory. They can found as small as a doormat and come large enough to make a base for your dining furniture. Bamboo rugs can be woven, with fine strips either mixed with other natural materials such as jute, or bound with cotton fibers. These rugs may or may not have a backing. Other styles are made from strips of bamboo, mounted on a felt or fabric backing.
Most bamboo rugs have a cotton binding around the edge which come in many colors - as does the bamboo itself. Natural bamboo is pale in color. However, during the drying process it can be smoked, or carbonized, which causes it to darken in color. So, a bamboo rug can be found to suit any decor.
Your bamboo rug can even be complemented with a matching blind to complete the look. Bamboo blinds are inexpensive, easily available and can be custom made to fit almost any window.
A bamboo rug should be cared for to last well. Although bamboo is the toughest plant in the world, the rug itself needs to be looked after. It can be brushed clean to prevent scratching on the thicker strips of bamboo, and most can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. If the manufacturer has supplied cleaning instructions, be sure to follow them to prevent damage. Spills should be removed as soon as possible to prevent discoloration.
